How to Check Your CTOS Score for Free in Malaysia
Edited by Teh Kim Guan, ACMA, CGMA · Updated 2026-06-24
You can check your CTOS credit profile for free, right now, without paying anything. The MyCTOS Basic report is available at no charge to every Malaysian who registers for a CTOS ID, and it includes your CCRIS data, litigation history, and a snapshot of your credit standing.
This guide walks you through exactly what is free, what costs money, how to register, and how to read what you see once you are logged in. If you want to understand the broader credit landscape first, start with our CTOS and CCRIS explainer before coming back here.
What is the MyCTOS Basic report?
CTOS Data Systems is Malaysia’s largest private credit reporting agency, licensed by the Ministry of Finance under the Credit Reporting Agencies Act 2010. It compiles data from Bank Negara Malaysia’s CCRIS system, court records, the Insolvency Department, and trade references submitted by businesses.
The MyCTOS Basic report is the free tier of this system. It gives you a high-level view of your credit profile without the numerical CTOS Score. Once you create a CTOS ID account, you can access this report at any time.
What is included in the free report?
| Section | What you see | Free or Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Personal details | Name, NRIC, address on record | Free |
| CCRIS summary | Active credit facilities, outstanding balances (last 12 months), repayment pattern | Free |
| Legal action summary | Number of suits, bankruptcy status | Free |
| Directorship and business interests | Companies where you are a director | Free |
| Trade references | Payment history submitted by CTOS member companies | Free |
| CTOS Score (300 to 850) | Numerical credit score with band label | Paid (RM26.50 per report) |
| Full CTOS Score report with analysis | Score factors, trend graph, improvement tips | Paid |
The key distinction: the free report shows you the underlying data that feeds your score. The paid MyCTOS Score report adds the three-digit number, the band label (Poor to Excellent), and a factor breakdown so you know what is dragging the score down.
How to check your CTOS score for free: step by step
Step 1: Create a CTOS ID
Go to ctosid.ctos.my and click Sign Up Free. You will need:
- Your Malaysian NRIC number (MyKad) or passport number for non-citizens
- A valid email address
- A mobile number registered in Malaysia
Fill in the details and submit. CTOS will send an email verification link. Click it to activate your account. The registration is free and takes about three minutes.
Step 2: Complete identity verification
Before CTOS releases any credit data, it must confirm you are who you say you are. This is a legal requirement under the Credit Reporting Agencies Act 2010 and is there to protect your data from unauthorised access.
Verification happens in two ways:
- Automatic verification: CTOS cross-checks your NRIC against national databases. Most applicants are verified instantly.
- Manual verification: If automatic verification fails, upload a photo of your MyKad (front and back) and a selfie. CTOS typically completes manual reviews within one to two business days.
Step 3: Access your MyCTOS Basic report
Once verified, log in to your account. On the dashboard, click My Credit Report and then select MyCTOS Basic. The report loads on screen and can be downloaded as a PDF.
You can refresh and view this report at any time without charge.
Step 4: Use the MyCTOS mobile app (optional)
CTOS offers the MyCTOS app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app uses the same CTOS ID login. Once signed in, the Basic report is accessible under the My Report tab. The app also sends push notifications when your credit data changes, which is useful for spotting errors early.
Reading your MyCTOS Basic report
CCRIS section
This section mirrors what Bank Negara Malaysia holds in CCRIS. You will see every active credit facility (home loans, car loans, personal loans, credit cards, overdrafts), the outstanding balance on each, and your repayment pattern for the last 12 months. Repayment is coded 0 (on time), 1 (one month overdue), 2 (two months overdue), and so on. A clean record shows all zeros. Any digit of 1 or higher flags a missed or late payment in that month.
Legal section
Shows whether any company or individual has filed a legal suit against you, and whether you have been declared bankrupt by the Insolvency Department.
Directorship section
CTOS pulls directorship records from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM). If you are a director of any registered entity, it appears here. Lenders use this to assess business liabilities you may carry personally.
Trade references
Payment performance records submitted voluntarily by CTOS member businesses, such as utility companies and telecoms providers. A history of prompt payments strengthens your profile.
What the CTOS Score looks like (paid tier)
The CTOS Score runs from 300 to 850. Higher means lower perceived credit risk. CTOS uses five bands:
| Score range | Label |
|---|---|
| 750 to 850 | Excellent |
| 696 to 749 | Good |
| 641 to 695 | Average |
| 580 to 640 | Weak |
| 300 to 579 | Poor |
The score weighs repayment history, credit utilisation, length of credit history, credit mix, and recent applications. The paid MyCTOS Score report (RM26.50 as of 2025) shows which factors are affecting your score and includes a trend graph. If you are planning a major loan application, purchase the paid report at least one to two months in advance so you have time to address any issues it flags.
Free vs paid: which do you actually need?
Most Malaysians can start with the free Basic report. It is sufficient for:
- Checking whether your CCRIS record is clean before a loan application
- Spotting errors in your personal details or outstanding balances
- Confirming there are no surprise legal suits or bankruptcy flags against your name
- Routine annual credit hygiene
The paid MyCTOS Score report is worth the cost when:
- You are applying for a large loan and want to know your standing precisely
- A bank has declined your application and you want to understand why
- You suspect your score has dropped and want the factor breakdown
- You are building your credit profile from scratch and want to track progress
What to do if you find an error
Errors on credit reports do happen. A payment that was made on time may show as overdue due to a processing lag, or a loan you settled may still appear as outstanding.
If you find an error:
- For CCRIS errors: Contact the bank or financial institution directly, as they are the source of the data. If the bank confirms the error, they will submit a correction to Bank Negara Malaysia. You can also lodge a report with BNM via eCCRIS or through BNM LINK.
- For CTOS-specific errors (trade references, litigation details): Contact CTOS through the dispute resolution form available in your MyCTOS account or email ctos@ctos.com.my.
- If you cannot resolve it directly: AKPK provides free financial counselling and can help you navigate disputes with lenders.
Under the Credit Reporting Agencies Act 2010, credit reporting agencies are required to investigate disputes within 21 days and correct confirmed errors.

Frequently asked questions
Is the free CTOS Basic report really free?
Yes. There is no subscription fee, no credit card required, and no trial period. You pay only if you choose to purchase the MyCTOS Score report (the numerical score plus factor breakdown) or other premium products.
How often can I check my free CTOS report?
There is no stated limit. Once your account is verified, you can log in and download the Basic report whenever you need it.
Can I check my CTOS report from a smartphone?
Yes. The MyCTOS app (Android and iOS) uses the same CTOS ID login and gives access to the Basic report on mobile. The paid Score report can also be purchased within the app.
Does checking my own report affect my score?
No. Viewing your own report is a soft inquiry and has no effect on your score. Only hard inquiries, triggered when a lender formally checks your report during a credit application, are recorded and may have a minor short-term impact.
My report shows nothing. Is that normal?
It can be normal if you have never taken out a loan, hire purchase, or credit card. A blank CCRIS record means no credit history, which is different from a bad credit history. Lenders may still decline applications due to insufficient history. Starting with a secured credit card or small financing product and maintaining clean repayments is the standard first step.
