How to Link Your TNG eWallet to DuitNow for Instant Top-Ups

Edited by Teh Kim Guan, ACMA, CGMA · Updated 2026-06-24

You can top up your TNG eWallet via DuitNow Transfer in under two minutes, at zero cost, directly from any Malaysian bank account. No card required, no convenience fee, and funds arrive instantly.

DuitNow is the national instant payment network operated by Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and overseen by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). Because TNG eWallet is a licensed e-money issuer under BNM, it is a full participant in DuitNow. This means you can push money from your bank account to your eWallet any time, seven days a week, around the clock.

Why DuitNow is the best way to reload TNG eWallet

TNG eWallet supports several reload methods: DuitNow Transfer, credit card, debit card (manual), and Reload PIN. Here is how they compare:

MethodFeeSpeedMin amountNotes
DuitNow TransferFreeInstantRM1Recommended. Works 24/7
Debit card (manual)FreeInstantRM10Auto-reload via debit card ended 13 May 2026
Credit card1% convenience feeInstantRM10Malaysian-issued cards only

From 13 May 2026, TNG Digital discontinued the debit card auto-reload (Quick Payment / Auto Reload) feature. Manual debit card top-ups and DuitNow Transfer continue as before. DuitNow Transfer is now the primary free and automated-friendly reload method.

What you need before you start

  1. A verified TNG eWallet account. Unverified accounts cannot receive money via DuitNow Transfer. To verify, open the TNG eWallet app, go to Profile, and complete the MyKad-based identity verification (eKYC).
  2. A Malaysian bank account that supports DuitNow Transfer. All major Malaysian banks, including Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Hong Leong Bank, AmBank, BSN, and all licensed digital banks, support DuitNow. Check your bank’s mobile app for a “Transfer” or “DuitNow” option.
  3. Your TNG eWallet DuitNow ID. This is your mobile number registered to the eWallet. You can verify it inside the app: tap Profile, then look under “DuitNow ID”.

Step-by-step: topping up TNG eWallet via DuitNow from your bank app

The most common way to do this is a push transfer from your bank’s app. You are sending money out of your bank account and into the eWallet.

From your bank’s mobile app

  1. Open your bank’s mobile app and log in.
  2. Navigate to Transfer or Send Money, then select DuitNow Transfer.
  3. Under “Recipient ID type”, choose Mobile Number.
  4. Enter the mobile number registered to your TNG eWallet. This is your DuitNow ID.
  5. The system will resolve the recipient name. Verify it matches your registered TNG eWallet name before proceeding.
  6. Enter the amount you want to top up (minimum RM1).
  7. Add a reference note if you wish, then confirm the transfer.
  8. Funds arrive in your TNG eWallet instantly.

From inside the TNG eWallet app (incoming reload view)

TNG eWallet also shows you your own DuitNow ID so you can share it with others or copy it for reference:

  1. Open the TNG eWallet app.
  2. Tap Reload on the home screen.
  3. Select DuitNow Transfer.
  4. The app will display your DuitNow ID (your registered mobile number) and a QR code.
  5. You can screenshot this and use it in your bank app, or share it with someone paying you.

There is no “linking” step in the traditional sense. DuitNow Transfer works because your mobile number is already registered as a DuitNow proxy ID when you verified your TNG eWallet account. Any bank in Malaysia can push funds to that ID.

TNG eWallet reload limits by account tier

Your reload capacity depends on your eWallet tier, set under BNM’s e-money licensing framework. TNG eWallet operates two main tiers for individual users (figures from TNG Digital’s published limits, current as of 2025):

TierMax wallet balanceMax monthly reloadAnnual DuitNow limit
Lite (unverified)RM200RM200Not applicable
Premium (verified)RM20,000Varies by methodRM600,000

For verified (Premium) accounts, the monthly DuitNow Transfer limit is RM120,000. The daily individual DuitNow consumer limit set by PayNet is up to RM50,000, though the final limit applied is the lower of your bank’s limit and TNG Digital’s limit.

If you are on a Lite account, complete eKYC verification to move up to the Premium tier. Go to Profile in the app and follow the identity verification prompts.

Setting up auto-reload via DuitNow (Scheduled Transfer)

Since TNG Digital removed debit card auto-reload from 13 May 2026, the practical replacement is a scheduled transfer in your bank app:

  1. In your bank’s mobile app, set up a scheduled/recurring DuitNow Transfer to your TNG eWallet mobile number.
  2. Choose a frequency (weekly or monthly) and the amount.
  3. Most major Malaysian banks support recurring DuitNow transfers. Check your bank’s transfer menu for a “Scheduled” or “Recurring” option.

This replicates the auto-reload experience without relying on TNG’s own auto-reload system.

Troubleshooting common failures

”Recipient not found” or transfer rejected

  • Confirm the mobile number is the one registered to your TNG eWallet, not a secondary number. Check inside the app under Profile.
  • Confirm your TNG eWallet account is verified (Premium tier). Unverified accounts cannot receive via DuitNow Transfer.
  • Some banks display this error if the mobile number is not registered as a DuitNow proxy ID with any institution. If your number was recently changed, allow 24 hours for the DuitNow registry to update.

Transfer shows sent from bank but not received in TNG eWallet

  • Allow up to 30 minutes, though most transfers are instant. DuitNow has a 99%+ same-second success rate but rare network delays occur.
  • Check your transaction history in the TNG eWallet app (Home, then the clock/history icon).
  • If funds do not appear after one hour, contact TNG eWallet support with your bank’s transaction reference number. Do not contact the bank first; TNG Digital holds the DuitNow recipient end.

Reload amount exceeds limit

  • Verified accounts: ensure you are not exceeding the RM20,000 wallet balance cap. Top up in smaller amounts across the month if needed.
  • Lite accounts: complete eKYC to raise the balance cap to RM20,000.

DuitNow Transfer not visible in my bank app

  • Update your bank’s mobile app to the latest version. DuitNow Transfer has been a required feature for licensed banks since 2018, but older app versions may label it differently (“IBG Instant” or “Instant Transfer”).
  • If the feature is genuinely missing, call your bank’s helpline and ask them to activate DuitNow Transfer on your profile.

Key takeaways

  • DuitNow Transfer is free and instant. It is the most efficient way to reload your TNG eWallet in 2026.
  • Your DuitNow ID for TNG eWallet is your registered mobile number. No separate registration is required.
  • You must complete eKYC (identity verification) before your eWallet can receive DuitNow Transfer funds.
  • Auto-reload via debit card ended 13 May 2026. Replace it with a scheduled recurring DuitNow Transfer from your bank app.
  • Verified accounts can hold up to RM20,000 and have a monthly DuitNow reload limit of RM120,000.
  • If a transfer fails, check the recipient mobile number, your verification status, and your remaining wallet balance before escalating.

Frequently asked questions

Is DuitNow Transfer the same as IBG (Interbank GIRO)?

No. IBG is an older batch payment system with processing delays of up to one business day. DuitNow Transfer runs on real-time rails and settles instantly, 24/7, including public holidays. Always choose DuitNow Transfer over IBG when topping up your eWallet.

Can I use DuitNow QR to reload my TNG eWallet?

DuitNow QR is designed for paying merchants, not for reloading your own eWallet balance. To top up, use DuitNow Transfer (phone number as recipient ID), not DuitNow QR.

Is there a minimum top-up amount via DuitNow?

TNG Digital accepts DuitNow Transfer reloads from RM1. Your bank may impose its own minimum transfer amount, typically RM0.01 to RM1.00, so check your bank app.

No direct linking between your bank account and TNG eWallet is required for DuitNow Transfer top-ups. You push funds from the bank side using only your TNG-registered mobile number. The connection is handled through the national DuitNow network.

What happens if I exceed the monthly reload limit?

Any transfer that would push your wallet balance above RM20,000 (for verified accounts) will be rejected by TNG Digital. The funds are returned to your bank account automatically, typically within one to three business days. BNM’s e-money policy sets these caps to protect consumers; they are not arbitrary limits set by TNG Digital alone.
